How to get Traffic to Your Wedding Photography Website Without Portfolio

Today a question came to me from different directions.

I really want to book more weddings, get more traffic to my website, but…

I don’t have anything to blog!!

I will tell you that’s not true. You just have to look differently at your photos.

I will give you 3 ideas to get started, and I want to get your creative juices flowing so please fill up the comments with loads more ideas so we can all inspire each other. After these 3 tips you can start to get traffic to your wedding photography website!

1. blog about wedding venues in your area

You want to be booked in your area (preferably, so you don’t have to travel so much). Then one great action is to build relationships with the venues in your area.

Bonuspoints to succeed:

  • Get to know the owner of the venue (linkedin, twitter or even facebook are your friends here) and start your relationship before you even ask to photograph their venue.
  • When you are friends on social media (this is really optional if you don’t have the time to invest) call them up and tell them you want to feature his venue as your favorite wedding venue on your blog to inform your brides and grooms. Ask if it is possible to drop by to take some gorgeous images and offer them to use the images as well.
  • Get a florist involved and ask if the venue wants to decorate one table like it’s styled for a wedding, you’ll bring the flowers!

Use SEO optimization to bring your blog under the attention of brides and grooms that are looking for venues to get married.

2. blog one special image of a past wedding

Usually when you photograph a wedding you publish one blog with the highlights of the wedding. But you have so many more candid, funny, wonderful images stored on your harddisk. Pick a theme and promote one day a week to theme day!

For example, wednesday is DIY-day. Find gorgeous detail photo(s) of one object and post this, with the story of how it was created or whether it had special meaning to the bride and groom. Find a description on pinterest or the web on how your website visitors can create their own.

Use SEO optimization to bring your post under the attention of DIY savvy brides!

3. blog about your life and married life

People really want to have a click with a photographer. So the more they are getting to know you, the better. You can’t really go wrong with expressing who you are and if you can do it in relation to marriage or weddings you have the hook that people can enter your blog in.

For example, blog about things in your life that are still in the works and how you are dreaming of how it will be. Combine it with a nice quote about dreaming and relate that to weddings to come and dreaming of how it will be.

Use SEO optimization so people who are typing „dream wedding” will find your site ;-).
