The one thing that is holding you back from what you really want

Eat the frog

It was getting close to 10 am.

I had to remind myself. Eat the frog!!

I set myself a goal to write every day in 2016. At least every working day. And after 4 days of glorious writing and feeling very fulfilled I stared blankly at my keyboard.

What’s next?

I didn’t feel the inspiration yet I wanted to feel as fulfilled as I did the days before.

So after procrastinating with emails and bookkeeping (can you believe it??) for a while, I told myself to eat the frog.

It’s that thing you want to do, that will give you the most pleasure if you have done it, but it’s giving you the most pain to get started with. Invented by Brian Tracy in his book “Eat that Frog!” where he teaches 21 ways to stop procrastination and get more done in less time.

It’s one of the many things that I will teach in my 1-on-1 course “Profit For Photographers: Grow Your Business With Ease & Fun in 60 Days”

When I finally eat the frog/ do that thing, the rest of the day seems to continue in a magical productive flow. If I let the frog eat away my energy in the back of my mind, the day is almost lost. I will feel very dissatisfied at the end of it.

So that’s what I want to remind you of today. Eat the frog. Preferably before you do anything else that day. If there is something on your list that will give you a lot of pleasure when it is finished but you are kind of not looking forward to starting it.

Just start.

Now.

If everything on your list looks equally attractive I would say, just start with what is giving you the most joy. But on some days, it pays to tackle the task that gives you resistance. Especially when it is a task that you actually really want to do. You have put it on your todo list yourself. No one else did that for you.

Find opportunities in the existence of the Frog

There is an excellent opportunity to investigate where this resistance is coming from.

Start with a deep breath. In and out.

Repeat a couple of times.

Feel your feet on the floor, feel your chair, feel your arms. Be.

Ask yourself: why do I not want to start with …….. (fill in the task).

Listen to what boils up.

For me, it was a fear of not having it. Not being able to write anything sensible (even if I declared that to be okay too). Not being good enough to write.

As soon as I realized that, I started to write. Duh!

What’s your unconscious fear of not getting started? Or is it something else?

So with this short post, I already feel fulfilled and I am happy I ate the frog ;-).

What’s your frog look like?
